Do you host forum contests?

Do you hold contests on your forum for your members? If you do, what sort of contests do you like to run? What do you usually give out as the prize for winning such contests? I personally have not held any contests on my forum. It's something I might be interested in doing in the future, however.

Forum contest is one of the biggest ways for you to generate huge activities in your community and it is something that you have to monetize in a way that it is going to get a lot of people's interest to join the contest. A lot of forums do it all the time.

I hosted a writing contest on my first forum. I was giving away cash prizes for three winners. The primary idea behind hosting the contest was to get a lot of users and activities on my site. Sadly, there was just one entry and I had to cancel the contest. I have never created another contest on any of my forums.

The most important thing is that you were able to see positive results from hosting the contest on your website which saw a lot of users joining your community and also taking part in the contest. I'm sure if not for money challenges, you will host another.

Based on what I have seen on other forums, I do not think running a contest is good for bringing new members and activities as activities will die out once you stop contest. But if your community is vibrant hosting contests once in a while to install life inside your community can be good.
