Brand channels on youtube have lots of additional features compared to a normal channel.
Some features include channel banner with social media buttons, external annotation linking etc.

Though youtube kinda implies it is free, the real fact is most of the brand channel had to spend over $200,000 via adwords for getting the brand channels. Have you got a brand channel? If yes, how much did you spend? Do you know someone who has got a brand channel without actually paying anything?
