Directory Sites

Do you submit your website, blog or forum to any directory sites? If so why do you add them, is it to gain more exposure or to try and improve backlinks and your google search ranking?

I think that adding your sites to specific directories that are large will help you gain more users and visits

I do not think directories work great. They do get backlinks, which is a positive. However, I've never looked through a directory for a forum to join. Every little bit counts, but I don't think directories are incredibly active.
