Creating a product just so you can make a site to sell it

Has anyone here created a new product and attempted to sell it on your own site? I know some people will create a new product, set up a site, and sell it from that site only. The thing is, you need to come up with an interesting product to sell, otherwise there is no point in having a site just to sell one item. But it can work. I know there are sites out there with the sole focus is to sell just one item. Do you have a site to just sell one item? Would you make a site to sell just one product?
