Country domains or gTLD are the domains that are country-specific. For instance, the country domain for Australia is dot au, country domain for the UK is dot uk, country domain for the US is dot, us. etc. The primary purpose of country domain or gTLD is to rank on the local search. If your website caters to local people and if you wnat to rank for the local search, you need to use a country domain. For example, dot uk will rank easily in the UK compared to a generic dot com.

Country domains are good for regional markets. Google has a lot of country domains. Must be difficult to keep track for them I guess, Maybe, who knows. Back to topic, my favorite country domains would be dot us and dot in. I am always focused on the US and India media space. I would definitely get a country domain or two for 19NEWS.

Some country's domains like .US is even available on most of hosting platforms while others like .ng aren't available so there are countries' domains available in local hoster while others in international hosters and if the country domain isn't available they say unsupported TTL.
