In your opinion, what would have to happen for online communities to start regaining popularity over social networking platforms?

I know this sort of singles out those who have an online community through social media.

But I'm curious what the other community managers think - those with traditional forums, online community modern platforms, and off-social communities.

Do you think the time will come when this will be a reality? Why or why not?

For those that "have" to have an app to post from... there's not an easy answer.
The nearest you can get is with PWA for mobil... but you still have the standard "onboarding" hassles and not a "central" place to post your content. You usually have to actually THINK about what to do... and unluckily, with a noticeable segment of society now, having to think is a requirement they prefer to avoid.
