An important topic that affects all of us: Spam Prevention. We all know how spam can be a real pain in the ass and disrupt the harmony of our online communities. But what's the most effective way to combat it?

We have a few key methods at our disposal: CAPTCHA, automated spam checks, and manual review by administrators. Each has its pros and cons, and what works for one community might not be the best choice for another.

CAPTCHA:
These tests are designed to determine if the user is human or a bot. They come in various forms, from the classic distorted text to image recognition challenges. CAPTCHAs are great at blocking automated bots, but are they foolproof? Are there CAPTCHA alternatives that work even better?

Automated Spam Checks:
Many platforms use automated systems that analyze user behavior, patterns, and content to flag potential spam. How effective are these algorithms? Do they sometimes catch legitimate content in their net, or do they strike the right balance?

Manual Review by Administrators:
The human touch – admins manually review registrations and posts to weed out spammers. It's thorough, but it can be time-consuming. Is it worth the effort? Does it guarantee the best results?

Honestly all three of the examples you've listed are the best approach I think when it comes to combating spam on your community. Though honestly I feel like there isn't much spam these days, not like it used to be. It's rare that I see spam bots trying to join my communities, or see spam posts on forums. The only time I'll see spam posts are on abandoned forums, and usually on free platforms like Proboards.
