Can you succeed with a free site?

Can you succeed with a free site instead of making one or paying for one? I know you can still make free sites, but it think it's harder to get them out there than other sites. Who here has free sites that do good getting traffic.

What do you mean by succeed? Do you mean by success, revenue, traffic, or both? It is difficult to get traffic and revenue, but you can manage to earn from your free site.

It is possible to build up decent traffic but in terms of revenue and overall success, it is very unlikely. You will want to pay for a good domain and invest time and money into a site you want to eventually earn revenue from.

If I have multiple sources of income then earning from a free site is not a problem.
