Can the government increase or decrease pension amount?

The government offers pensions to its servants. The amount of pension a person receives depends heavily on the kind of job he had in the past. Having said that, the government may or may not increase or decrease the amount, so is it possible for the government to do so?

I have never heard of our government decreasing pensions, however, the government frequently increases pensions. In fact, whenever, the government increases the salary for its staff, pensioners also get the increment.
