I have built blogs on my forums as well as built forums on my blogs. Managing forums can be very difficult however, if you manage to bring some active users, you will get regular traffic to your forum as well as blog posts. You can even have discussion around your blog posts on your forum section.

I have the Blog before the Forum nav item on my site, hopefully, that'll attract more blog viewers.

Though I have had a period of no blog posts (a month-ish until yesterday). I am working on like 4 posts right now that I can have as either backup or publish once a week so I have a month to write the next one.
