I will list them out from my experience. :)
  • frequent blog posts.
  • unique contents.
  • communicating to the readers with the comment system.
  • doing some SEO works by yourself such as back linking.
  • making use of social networks like facebook/twitter
  • an interesting and easy to navigate theme
  • having some guests to write blog posts for you.
  • engaging in blogger communities like blog catalog, indiblogger(well this is for indian blogs).

I'd say language and grammar/spelling quality would be up there too :) But other than that I think you got all of them :) what do you reckon is the MOST important factor?

Sorry about the topic title everyone! I can't seem to edit :(

Well I missed that one! :p
Grammar and Spelling play another important part as Sam said!
The most important factor is kind of a combination imho ie., Frequent unique blog posts with good spelling and grammar.

BTW Sam are you sure you tried the "thread tools drop down menu" above your thread?

Well, obviously a blog will generally need some articles to get going and survive! Whats a plog without articles/posts for the audience? Haha. Aside from that though, I feel that the blog owner should put effort into commenting on their own articles from time to time. Post a thought-provoking question (Or even in response to another comment) so as to get people thinking, responding and above all, spending time on your blog. Blogs need comments, articles and a good design helps. That is my view on things.

- Constant blog posts, not once every blue moon
- Engage the audience
- Good easy to navigate design
- Listen to critism
