If you own a blog, do you have blog comments open or closed and why?

I personally have them closed at the moment because I really can't be bothered sifting through spam comments to find actual ones... :)

I think it's best to keep blog comments open. That way you'll have a conversation with your readers and that will keep your blog alive. You can always moderate the comments if you want and make all links in comments no-follow or maybe just don't allow links in comments. You can state that in your post that you don't allow links in comments.

I've allowed blog comments and all I've got is spam :(
That's the down side of allowing blog comments but if you don't allow blog comments, your blog posts will become like a one-way conversation. Blogs with comments are more interesting to read. When I see a blog post with no comments, first thing that came to my mind is that nobody visits the blog and that doesn't help much with the credibility of the blogger.

Yes, unfortunately most of the blog comments are spam - do you have an option to moderate them? If you can, moderate the your blog comments, because as UmiNoor says, blogs with comments are more interesting to read, the comment option will attract more and more visitors!
