Better alternatives to Gmail?

I've used Gmail most of my online life. Before it I used AOL, then Yahoo, MSN, and then I got into gmail and that was it. I haven't really looked back at other email services. But, are there better ones than Gmail these days? Or is Gmail usually the top dog when it comes to email services?

I have used hotmail and yahoomail in the past, and I no longer use these services. Currently, I use gmail, outlook, and proton but mostly use Gmail. I also use custom email from my domain but in my experience, there is no other good email service like gmail.
