Are social networks more like a forum or blog?

Forums are more about a bunch of people talking to each other, about a common topic. And, anybody can start a new discussion in any category or comment on any discussion, not just friends. But on a social networking site, all the action is based around an individual's profile page. And, they can only update that page except for making occasional comments on other profiles, much like blogging.

So with a blog or social network, you own the page. Not so with a forum.

What are your thoughts on this?

I will say social networks are a subset of both forums and blogs.
There are so many similarities that are common to s-networks & forums as well as s-networks & blogs.
Its hard to say which is more like a social networks. For example in social networks, anyone could start a discussion if the page has been configured to show all the status updates by all the people, instead of just the admins. In that case its more like forums. But if you have set the page only to display the updates by administrators its more like a blog.

More like a blog. You can post some stuff you like and get opinions from the people who view what you've posted.

In my opinion, they're like neither.
They come under a different category. SNS are more like people whom we know in real life, where as blogs or forums are usually only online buddies. SNS are mostly concentrated about the user, what he likes, what he want to share, where he was and stuff like that, while forums / blogs are concentrating only on their respective niche.

According to me it is more like forum because you can add new members and easily interact with them.
