Arbitrage betting is essentially the practice of becoming a bookmaker, when you think about it.
A sufficiently large bookmaker who was operating a book with an unlimited amount of bets could theoretically maintain a 2% complete arbitrage on all markets by automatically adjusting odds as bets are placed.
Essentially, by arbitrage betting we are doing this ourselves but in a different way. Here is a real example of an arb I found this afternoon, essentially I checked and found the highest odds for each outcome (home win, draw, away win) on a football game and placed bets according to the calculator on each:
Most arb opportunities are very small, in fact, this 5.58% arb is one of the highest I have found this month. Usually an arb is at the most around 2%, which means that generally, you need big money to be able to make any real money.
Whilst this is technically gambling, it is risk-free, as one of the outcomes has to happen, and if it doesn't (for example if weather cancels the game etc) then all bets are voided and refunded.
Anybody else had experience doing this?
