Any web hosts that closed down while you had a site with them?

Has there ever been a host that closed down while you were using their services to host your site? I'm curious to know if it's even possible for web hosts to close down without telling the site owners. Is something like this possible? Or would the site owners get notice of change?

This has never happened to me as i do not own any website however i think that in these cases they would have a legal obligation to let all of their site owners know and to compensate them accordingly or make other arrangements.

I don't really have a website but if a web hosting service that my website is operating on closes down I will have no other choice than to patronize another web hosting service.

I once was with a web host, where I hosted a website. I did not work on that site as I already was using another web host. Once day I just noticed that the web host had vanished

I have not had such experience as I have been using hostgator exclusively for the last couple of years and the company still exists. But in theory, your scenario is possible but highly unlikely as the said hosting service should naturally migrate all domains to another service. It's always important to check hosting service credibility before hosting a site

This is a problem when you host you website with unknown company, you should always choose a company that is realiable, popular and has been around since a while.
