Do you allow the use of abusive words such as swearing on your forum? If so, why? If you do not allow the use of abusive words how do you prevent community members from using them. Do you filter them or do you warn members?

I don't allow them. I will remove the post and remove the member, no questions asked.

I dont allow abusive words. If it happens in my forum then I will delete the post and send an official warning. If the member once again repeats the mistake then I will permanantly ban him.

When I was younger, I was super serious about censoring profanity, but I've become much more lax about it over these past couple years. I could care less about members using profanity on my forums. Where I live, you'll hear profanity in just about any public setting. I've heard about every profane word that exists at my work. Taking these things into consideration, I don't see any reason to censor profanity. You could say that it's tacky, but it's how the real world seems to be.

Of course, there's still times when enough is enough. If a member is being treated very poorly with various profane remarks by another member, I would definitely step in. We all still deserve to be treated like human beings. :p

I do not allow offensive language on my forum. I do my best to keep the content suitable for a PG audience. Inappropriate language is censored using traditional asterisks. I have a plugin in place that allows me to do this. Most users are good about respecting this rule, so the plugin doesn't get much use.
